So you've got a graduate
in the family, which means it's time to start planning a celebration! Whether
your child is finishing preschool, high school, or college, you'll definitely
want to invite friends and family to join the party! The Class of 2014
graduates will no doubt have a few parties to attend, so make your
party something to remember.
1.
Pick an un-popular date. Many people schedule
their party the weekend after graduation, so steer clear of those dates. You
would have a smaller turn-out because of so many other commitments. Wait a
couple of weeks and then throw the big bash.
2.
Plan the food. Food is a great ice-breaker because
it gives people something to do. There's something about holding a plate of
food that makes it easier to mingle and talk. Go traditional with the grilled
meat and salads, order pizza, or do something totally unexpected like sushi and
a salad bar. It doesn't matter too much as long as there is food, and lots of
it.
3.
Provide entertainment. If you want people to stick
around (especially teenagers) invest in some things to keep them having fun.
Rent a photo booth, a mechanical bull, or a dunking tank. Hire a DJ to come in
and spin the tunes and turn your yard into an outdoor dance party.
4.
Send guests home with a personalized gift. Candy
bars with a personalized wrapper are the perfect way to say "Thanks for
coming to the party!" You can personalize it by adding a special photo of
the graduate, and include any special sentiments, including a poem, a joke, or
the guest of honor's name. You can use the school colors, or pick out a unique
style such as a wrapper that looks like a cell phone. Get creative and when
people tear themselves away from the party, they'll have a little treat they
can tear into later to remember what a good time they had.
